Issue 6: From Idea to Finished Product
I go through several steps on each page that I do. Besides outlining and reoutlining and writing and rewriting the series as a whole, I also rewrite each individual issue and each individual page as I see fit when it comes down to laying out the issue. For instance, if you look at the "written page with corrections" on the left, you can see differern words and phrases scribbled out and rewritten. You may also see some highlighted things that I knew I eventually would have to change.
From there, I usually move on to laying out the issue. Usually I do this in the roughest possible form. Many times, I won't even draw faces; I'll draw a stick-figure with the name of the person where their head should be. I just find it beneficial to put an entire issue together at the same time, rather than doing it for each individual page; one can get lost easily like that.
After laying out the issue, I start on pencils. As you can tell from the picture above, this is usually a rough pencil (at best). I don't really get into what I want the page to look like until I get to the inking stage.
Notice the details on the inked page the suddenly appear. Suddenly backgrounds come to focus, clothing comes together, and even facial expressions change a little. |
